Nezuko then sleeps for two years as Tanjiro moves on to training, without even waking up when he leaves for the Final Selection.

The Tanjiro family was poor, unlike Tanjiro, who was in charge of selling firewood in the city, Nezuko usually helped with the family home.

On the rare occasions when Nezuko tries to speak, she has been seen stuttering a lot, which may be due to her bamboo mouthpiece, which is rarely removed, and the fact that she did not speak for several years after her transformation.

Nezuko also retains some of her human emotions, as she has been seen crying when she is sad and smiling when she is happy.

As a demon, however, Nezuko seems to have forgotten much of her memories as a human, in addition to those related to her family, and therefore does not retain the exact personality she had before the transformation.

Nezuko also wears a small pink ribbon on the left side of his head to keep his hair out of his face, as well as the bamboo muzzle that Giyu Tomioka gave him, which keeps Nezuko from biting anybody (including herself) island also keeps her mouth closed at all times.

The reason Nezuko’s hair is not tied now that she is a demon is that Tanjiro is not very good at doing it for her and Nezuko also can’t do it herself now.

The fact that his last name translates to the word for a wood-burning oven is probably a reference to his family’s occupation before their deaths.
